Arthritis of the Spine


 

Spinal arthritis  or also known as osteoarthritis of the spine is inflammation of the facet joints, which is the cartilage that cushions bones begins to deteriorate, in the spine or sacroiliac joints between the spine and the pelvis. It may be related to wear and tear, autoimmune disorders, infection and other conditions. The signs of arthritis of the spine is pain in the spine, tenderness over the affected vertebra, stiffness, loss of range of motion, weakness or numbness in the legs or arms, tingling in the arms or legs. Diagnosis arthritis of the spine or Osteoarthritis is by x-ray or MRI.


Treatment for compression fracture can consist of physical therapy, medication, epidural steroid injection, or spinal surgery such as a laminectomy discectomy or spinal fusion.
