Degenerative Joint Disease (Facet Joint Arthrosis)


 

Degenerative Joint Disease is know as Arthritis of the Facet joint, Facet joint arthrosis, and facet joint arthritis.  It occurs when there is arthritis of the facet joints caused from aging that can lead to neck, upper back and lower back pain.  The cartilage inside the facet joints can break down and become inflamed, triggering pain in the nearby nerve endings.  Diagnosis degenerative joint disease or facet joint arthrosis by x-ray or MRI.

Treatments can consist of exercise, medication, physical therapy, medical procedure such as Facet joint injection or require spinal surgery.
